Bavaria Cruiser Sprayhood – Model-Specific Covers for Every Hull, Delivered Across Europe
A well-fitted sprayhood is one of the most practical upgrades you can make to a Bavaria Cruiser. It shields the companionway from spray, rain and wind, extends your sailing season, and significantly improves comfort during offshore passages. This guide covers every Bavaria Cruiser model we supply, the material choices available, how to get the right fit, and what to expect from the installation process.
Bavaria Yachts has been one of Europe's most popular production boatbuilders for decades. Their Cruiser line – from the compact 28 through to the spacious 50 and beyond – shares consistent deck hardware standards and companionway geometry across build years, which makes sourcing a model-specific sprayhood straightforward when you work with a specialist supplier.
Which Bavaria Cruiser Models Do We Cover?
We supply model-specific sprayhoods for the following Bavaria Cruiser versions. Each cover is patterned to the exact companionway dimensions and grab-rail positions of that hull generation – not a generic approximation.
Why Does a Model-Specific Sprayhood Matter?
Generic or universal sprayhoods are a false economy on a production cruiser. Bavaria companionways differ in width, height and frame angle across model years. The grab-rail positions – which the sprayhood frame bolts to – also vary. A cover that doesn't align precisely to these points will gap at the sides, place stress on the frame, or require improvised fixings that damage the gelcoat over time.
A model-specific sprayhood is patterned from a physical template taken directly from that hull. It drops into place cleanly, the frame feet sit flat on the coaming, and the zip or Velcro closure seals against the existing hatch surround without modification. This matters most in the Baltic and North Sea, where weather can change quickly and you need confidence the companionway is genuinely sealed.
Sprayhood Material Options for Bavaria Cruisers
Sunbrella® (Solution-Dyed Acrylic)
The most popular choice for European sailing. Sunbrella is breathable, UV-resistant, and available in a wide range of colours. It handles the damp northern European climate well, dries quickly after rain, and typically lasts 8–12 years with basic maintenance. Standard warranty from the fabric manufacturer is 10 years against fading.
Masacril® (Solution-Dyed Acrylic)
An Spanish alternative to Sunbrella with similar performance characteristics. Slightly heavier hand feel, excellent abrasion resistance, and a reputation for colour retention in high-UV environments. A good choice if your Bavaria Cruiser spends summers in the Mediterranean.
Windows
All our Bavaria Cruiser sprayhoods are available with three forward-facing windows in 0,75 mm optical-grade PVC.
Bavaria Cruiser Cockpit Covers
Many Bavaria Cruiser owners pair their sprayhood with a full cockpit cover for marina storage or winter lay-up. A properly fitted cockpit cover protects the winches, traveller track, tiller or wheel, and the sprayhood itself from UV degradation and bird damage over the winter season.
We pattern cockpit covers to the same hull-specific dimensions as our sprayhoods. If you order both together, the sprayhood and cockpit cover are designed to interface cleanly at the companionway – no overlap gaps, no mismatched attachment points.

How Does Fitting Work?
Our Bavaria Cruiser sprayhoods are designed for owner DIY installation. The frame is pre-assembled and the cover is sewn to fit – no cutting or drilling required in most cases. The process typically takes one to two hours with basic tools. We include a fitting guide with every order.
If your boat has non-standard grab-rail positions (common on Bavaria Cruisers that have had the original rails replaced), contact us before ordering. We can adjust the frame foot spacing to match your specific layout at no extra charge, provided you send us the measurements.
Need Something Custom?
If your Bavaria Cruiser has a bimini already fitted, an unusual cockpit layout, or you want to integrate a sprayhood with a full cockpit enclosure, our sister business FreyaFrames handles bespoke fabrication. They work from photographs and measurements sent by email and can produce full-enclosure systems for Bavaria Cruisers.
Frequently Asked Questions – Bavaria Cruiser Sprayhoods
We stock a model-specific sprayhood patterned directly to the Bavaria Cruiser 36 companionway for model years 2002 and 2010 onward. It fits all build years after mentioned model year unless the companionway hatch has been replaced with a non-OEM unit. If you're unsure, send us your hull number and we'll confirm before dispatch.
The hull identification number (HIN) is moulded into the transom on the starboard side. The 10th character of the HIN indicates the model year. Alternatively, the CE documentation plate inside the companionway shows the year of manufacture.
Most Bavaria Cruiser owners install our sprayhoods without professional help. The frame feet bolt to the existing grab rails using the supplied fittings, and the cover attaches via Velcro and/or zip to the hatch surround. Plan for about 1–2 hours and a second pair of hands for holding the frame during fitting.
We offer the full Sunbrella and Masacril colour ranges – over 80 colours including the navy, cobalt and grey tones that are most popular on Bavaria Cruisers. If you want to match an existing bimini or sail cover, send us a fabric colour code of your existing covers. Alternatively we can deliver canvas samples for you prior to the order to find closest match.
Standard delivery to most EU countries is 4–6 working days after production is ready. We ship via tracked courier. Production time varies during the season and is somewhere between 2-6 weeks in general. Expect longer waiting times during the high season from March to June.
Brush off loose dirt, rinse with fresh water, and allow to dry fully before folding for storage. If the cover is to remain on the boat over winter, a cockpit cover over the top significantly extends its life by protecting it from UV, bird droppings, and ice formation in the window panels.
We hold patterns for most Bavaria Cruiser hulls built from 1995 onward. For older boats, companionway dimensions can vary significantly between individual hulls, so we may ask you to confirm measurements before we cut. Contact us with your model and year and we'll advise.
